4-H Scholarships Presented at Washington County 4-H Banquet
The Community Foundation of Washington County MD presented six scholarships totaling $4,850 at the Washington County 4-H banquet to the following recipients:
- Washington County 4-H Dairy Scholarship of $500 to Morgan Thompson
- Washington County 4-H Livestock Scholarship of $1,000 each to Abigail McDougal and Ashley Wiles
- Barry W. McAllister Memorial Scholarship of $350 to Bethany Doppel
- Mildred A. Schmid 4-H Scholarship of $500 to Morgan Thompson and $1,500 to Abigail McDougal
Morgan Thompson attends Washington County Technical High School in the Academy of Health Professions program. She participates in SkillsUSA, 4-H and serves as the Miss Washington County Farm Bureau. Megan plans to attend West Virginia University and become a registered nurse.Abigail McDougal goes to Smithsburg High School and is a Link Leader, Spanish National Honor Society president, Washington County 4-H Club president, Beta Club member and National Honor Society member. She tutors and serves as a student aid for Smithsburg Elementary and Cascade Elementary Schools. She plans to go to a four-year university after graduating high school in June.Ashley Wiles currently attends Hagerstown Community College and will graduate in December 2019 and transfer to University of Maryland Eastern Shore in January 2020. She is majoring in agribusiness and intends to educate youth on the importance of agriculture and help farmers insure their farms. Ashley helps set up and tear down the Washington County Ag Expo and Fair and gives tours around the fairgrounds to preschool students.Bethany Doppel attends Wilson College for Equine Facilitated Therapeutics. She will graduate with a bachelor's degree and regional certification that will transfer to PATH Intl. certification as a therapeutic riding instructor. Bethany has volunteered at STAR Equestrian Center for over five years. She also serves on the Wilson College Dressage Team, Collegiate Future Farmers of America, Maryland 4-H State Council and Washington County 4-H Leadership Club.
