Charlotte Hawbaker Fund Awards Nearly $24,000 to Two Washington County Nonprofits

The Charlotte Hawbaker Fund for Adult Day Services & Adult Respite Care, a fund of the Community Foundation of Washington County MD, has awarded two Washington County, Maryland 501(c)(3) nonprofits.

Fahrney Keedy was selected to receive $10,000 to use for their Adult Day Center’s activities, facilitating and embellishing their current programming and creating new opportunities. The center, still growing through the struggles of the pandemic, has new clients regularly enrolling. The goal of Fahrney Keedy’s Adult Day Center is to support those seniors who are "aging in place", living in their own homes. Support they provide includes engaging activities, nutritious meals, and medication management. This grant directly benefits these activities.

Easterseals DC MD VA was selected to receive $13,981.25. These funds will directly support their Adult Day Services center in Hagerstown. Easterseals Adult Day Services provides a nurturing, cost-effective alternative to nursing home care, allowing adults and seniors, including those with disabilities, to remain in their homes and community. They focus heavily on center-based Adult Day Services, which have been proven to positively impact both physical and mental health.

Charlotte Hawbaker, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed away at the age of 92 leaving behind a legacy of giving with this fund that provides an annual grant to an organization providing adult day services and/or adult respite care.
