Head Start of Washington County Receives Funding from Together With Families Fund
Head Start of Washington County has partnered with Together With Families to support area children and families. For its first distribution, the Together With Families fund, created by the Community Foundation of Washington County’s 21st Annual People’s Choice Award Winner Carrol Lourie, has chosen Head Start to receive $2,500.
Lourie, along with Dori Yorks of Together With Families, and Together With Families Review Committee and Board Members Danielle Hudak and Megan Dayhoff all agreed that a grant to Head Start of Washington County was the perfect way to put the fund to use.
Longstanding nonprofit Head Start’s mission is to provide children with nurturing experiences, a strong foundation for developmental growth and opportunities to achieve school readiness. They strive to empower families to take an active role in their child’s development and to reach their full potential.
“Our mission statement aligns perfectly with what Together With Families aims to achieve,” said Head Start of Washington County Executive Director Vicki Robinson.
Together With Families Fund founder Lourie, along with Yorks, facilitated this $2,500 donation to supply an “educational” pack to all attendees of Head Start’s annual Family Fall Fest, which brings several key partners together to provide information and services to Washington County families and children. These packs will include children’s books, activities, and other materials to families, including tips on how to “do a fun bath time with a child” and establish bedtime routines.
“We continually work to promote positive behaviors in our classrooms, and this would give some additional resources to our families to carry this lesson over into their homes,” continued Robinson.
“The purpose of the Together With Families fund is to support young families in our community, so that they have the resources to be able to grow, and to have their children grow up to be productive and healthy,” said Lourie.
“I think that routine is very important and also any kind of connection we can foster in the family,” said Hudak.“We’re excited that this newly-established fund, in its inception, is going to such a great organization,” said Dayhoff.
