Carpenter Family Presents Inaugural Scholarship

The Carpenter Family awarded their inaugural Frank M. and Ruth N. Carpenter Family Scholarship to Joseph Ernst and Jenna Smith, who both recently graduated from Clear Spring High School. The family created this scholarship at the Community Foundation to honor the legacy of their parents and the dedication of Clear Spring educators in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the school. Both students received $2,000 each for their achievements in science, math and technology while partaking in extracurricular activities.

Ranking in the top of his class, Joseph Ernst took several AP classes while participating in varsity soccer, God's Team Youth, Fix'n it 4 Christ and National Honor Society. He plans to attend Hagerstown Community College, majoring in petroleum and natural gas engineering.Jenna Smith was salutatorian for her class, served as class treasurer and played volleyball. She plans to major in business administration at Hagerstown Community College and then transfer to a four-year college to pursue a degree in accounting.Recently, Bob Carpenter made a significant gift to bring the value of the endowed scholarship up to $100,000 to ensure awards can be made every year.
