Community Foundation Scholarships Presented at Boonsboro High School

The Community Foundation recently presented the following scholarships at Boonsboro High School:

  • Boonsboro High School Alumni Scholarship of $500 to Grace Li.
  • Joseph M. Ellis Memorial Scholarship of $1,200 to Abigail Jones.
  • Michaela Jean Grove Scholarship of $1,000 to Grace Li and $500 each to Sydney Alexander and Emily Anderson.
  • Dan Pheil Memorial Scholarship of $500 to Samantha Juedemann.
  • Dwight Scott Scholarship of $750 each to Walter Riley and Haley Wright.
  • South County Scholarship of $900 to Ana Solberg.

BoonsboroSchRec-16Grace Li served as valedictorian of her class and participated on the It's Academic Team as a team captain, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and as co-editor for the “Boonsboro Literature & Arts Magazine.” She plans to pursue a degree in biology at a four-year university.Abigail Jones ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track and participated in National Honor Society and Future Educators of America. She plans to attend a four-year university and major in elementary education with a minor in history.Sydney Alexander played on the varsity golf and varsity basketball teams, has a first-degree adult black belt in karate and instructs kids once a week for the Police Activities League (P.A.L). She will attend Salisbury University and major in elementary education.Emily Anderson played varsity volleyball and served as team captain, the equipment manager and prayer leader. She also ran varsity indoor and outdoor track, earning numerous awards, including three-time county champion. In the fall, Miss Anderson will attend Shippensburg University and pursue a marketing degree.Ranking in the top ten of her class, Samantha Juedemann participated in the Japanese National Honor Society and jazz orchestra, and volunteered for several different organizations, including the local 4-H STEM day-camp. She will go to the University of Pittsburgh and major in engineering.Walter Riley played on the varsity football team and was part of the First Team All–County Offensive Line. He also participated on the wrestling team and placed second in regionals. Mr. Riley will attend Frostburg State University and play football.Haley Wright ran cross country and was the 1A State Cross Country Champion, leading her team to the state title. She was also the state champion in four events in outdoor track and field, setting a state 1A record in the 1600m run. Miss Wright will attend and run for the University of Alabama in the fall.Ranking in the top ten of her class, Ana Solberg ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track and was a member of the drama club, Young Life and National Honor Society. She plans to go to a four-year university and pursue a bachelor’s degree in zoology or biology.Click here to learn more about the above scholarships.
